NEWCASTLE companies were today urged to sign up for a free event at the Tyneside Cinema and discover how to supercharge their online skills.
The Superfast Business Success event on Tuesday, April 8th, is being organised by Go Digital Newcastle – a scheme to bring superfast broadband to 97pc of the city by 2015.
The event gives Newcastle companies the chance to find out more about the project and how it can help them be more effective and profitable.
The day is made up of a series of short taster sessions on subjects including cloud computing, effective use of social media, search engine optimisation and online trading.
Businesses can discover which skills they feel would most benefit their company and sign up for free intensive support.
Councillor Michael Johnson, Deputy Cabinet Member for Skills, Business and Enterprise, said: “Businesses in Newcastle have a wide and impressive range of skills and experiences; it is really encouraging to see more and more firms using the internet to increase sales and turnover.
“But Newcastle businesses consistently display an inspirational and tenacious desire to do more, achieve more, work smarter, reach more customers and work more efficiently.
“Go Digital Newcastle aims to help Newcastle’s businesses to work smarter and take a bigger share of their markets - I would encourage all businesses to attend this event and take advantage of the support available.”
The Business Support Programme offers small and medium enterprises (SMEs) a wide range of free help and advice including interactive masterclasses and workshops about online marketing, making the most of Twitter and Facebook, website development and cloud computing.
Specialist advisers will give practical advice and help, including details on how businesses can get a grant of up to £2,000 for related equipment and consultancy projects.
Suzy Jackson, Project Manager for Go Digital Newcastle’s Business Support Programme, said: “Our Superfast Business Success events are unlike any other.
“We provide information in a way businesses of all levels are able to understand and implement.
“Not only will businesses discover lots of hints, tips and practical advice, but they will be able to quiz the experts about how they can grow their business, increase turnover and strengthen their online presence - making this event un-missable.”
The programme, part-financed by the European Regional Development Fund, is intended to help businesses grow and prosper, boosting the local economy and strengthening Newcastle’s position within the global market.
In addition to the free business support Go Digital Newcastle is offering Connection Vouchers worth up to £3,000 towards the cost of getting connected to superfast broadband.
