This week: Spotify up, iTunes down, save the date and high speed filming!

August 29, 2014

It is that time of the week where we wrap up the tastiest news on the web into one delicious morsel!

Apple saves the date

Apple has its enthusiasts and loyalists intrigued by confirming that Wednesday, 9 September is set to be a special date. The question on everyone’s tongues though – what for? The iPhone 6 is due around this time, but there has also been speculation about the release of the much anticipated iWatch. Could this be an Apple overload if both are released on the same day?

Instagram releases Hyperlapse

Instagram has launched a brand new app. that allows users to film time-lapse videos which would normally only be possible using high tech expensive equipment. Users can film videos and speed them up 12x to create a unique video. However, it’s not without its drawbacks as there is no edit function – so be sure not to mess up!

Music streaming trumps downloads

The CD was once the death of cassette tapes and now it seems that streaming is cannibalising music downloads. A recent report shows that streaming is up and downloads are down, it’s causing a bit of a ruckus within the music industry. But why? Surely all consumption is good? It’s the speed of the transition that’s got people flapping. Musicians fear that royalties from streams won’t make up for the decline in download sales and they’ll not be able to persuade users to buy when they can stream for free. But with people showing that they’d prefer access to music rather than ownership – it’s a new way of listening that the music industry is going to have to learn to love. Where do you stand in this stream vs download debate?
